Data Engineer

About the Role

Build the data infrastructure that powers ANED's analytics and AI solutions. Design scalable data pipelines that collect, transform, and deliver data across African enterprise systems.

What You'll Do

• ▸ Design and build scalable ETL/ELT data pipelines
• ▸ Implement data warehouses and data lakes
• ▸ Build real-time streaming data architectures
• ▸ Ensure data quality, lineage, and governance
• ▸ Optimize query performance and data storage costs
• ▸ Implement data security and access controls
• ▸ Create data APIs and integration layers
• ▸ Document data models and pipeline architectures

What We're Looking For

• ▸ 3+ years data engineering experience
• ▸ Proficiency in Python and SQL
• ▸ Experience with data orchestration (Airflow, Dagster, Prefect)
• ▸ Knowledge of data warehouses (BigQuery, Redshift, Snowflake)
• ▸ Experience with streaming tools (Kafka, Kinesis)
• ▸ Understanding of data modeling and schema design
• ▸ Familiarity with cloud data services
• ▸ Strong problem-solving skills

Nice to Have

• ▸ Experience with dbt
• ▸ Knowledge of data governance frameworks
• ▸ Experience with African financial or telecom data
• ▸ Familiarity with data privacy regulations (POPIA, NDPR, DPA)
